The short version

Fieldnote does not run a journal-content service. The app has no Fieldnote account, no Fieldnote server, no analytics, and no advertising tracking. Your recordings, Pages, and Notes are not sent to Second Act Labs.

What stays in the app

Audio recordings stay on your devices and are excluded from device backup. Pages and Notes stay local by default. If you turn on private iCloud backup in Fieldnote, those Pages and Notes may be stored in your private iCloud account so they can be restored; Second Act Labs cannot access them through Fieldnote.

Fieldnote makes Notes on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device system language model. It does not send journal content to an external AI service. The app uses on-device transcription; Apple may provide the speech assets your device needs.

You can export every Page and Note as ordinary Markdown or documented, versioned JSON. Audio is never included in an export.

Service providers

Cloudflare hosts this website. Apple provides the iPhone and Apple Watch operating-system features used by Fieldnote, including optional private iCloud backup when you enable it. Their handling of information is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

Fieldnote does not use an external AI provider, advertising network, or app analytics provider for journal content or app activity.

Support messages and policy changes

If you contact us for support, we use the information in your message to reply and resolve the issue. Please do not send recordings or private journal text unless we specifically ask for it and you are comfortable doing so.

If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and its effective date.
