The short version

Fieldnote does not run a journal-content service. The app has no Fieldnote account, no Fieldnote server, no analytics, and no advertising tracking. Your recordings, Pages, Notes, and Letters are not sent to Second Act Labs.

The website’s early-access form is different: it collects the email address and optional walk-frequency answer that you choose to submit so we can manage early access.

Information from the early-access form

If you request early access, Second Act Labs stores:

• your email address;
• your optional answer about phone-free walks; and
• the time your request was created or updated.

We use this information only to manage the early-access list, decide whom to invite for testing, and communicate about that request. We do not sell it or use it for advertising.

Website storage, retention, and deletion

Early-access requests are stored in a private Cloudflare database used for this website. We keep them only for as long as they are needed to run early access and launch communications, then delete or anonymize them. We may keep a limited record longer when reasonably necessary to prevent abuse, resolve a support issue, or meet a legal obligation.

You may ask us to delete your early-access request at any time. Use the contact address below and include the email address you used for the request. We may need to verify that the request is yours before acting on it.

What stays in the app

Audio recordings stay on your devices and are excluded from device backup. Pages and Notes stay local by default. If you turn on private iCloud backup in Fieldnote, those Pages and Notes may be stored in your private iCloud account so they can be restored; Second Act Labs cannot access them through Fieldnote.

Fieldnote makes Notes and Letters on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device system language model. It does not send journal content to an external AI service. The app uses on-device transcription; Apple may provide the speech assets your device needs.

Service providers

Cloudflare hosts this website and stores early-access form requests. Apple provides the iPhone and Apple Watch operating-system features used by Fieldnote, including optional private iCloud backup when you enable it. Their handling of information is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

Fieldnote does not use an external AI provider, advertising network, or app analytics provider for journal content or app activity.

Support messages and policy changes

If you contact us for support, we use the information in your message to reply and resolve the issue. Please do not send recordings or private journal text unless we specifically ask for it and you are comfortable doing so.

If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and its effective date.
